FROM NBC NEWS:

Three officers are dead, and at least 8 others were injured in downtown Dallas on Thursday, Dallas Police Chief David Brown says.  One civilian was also shot but is alive.

Gunshots rang out following a protest and rally held over police shootings in other parts of the U.S.

The shootings took place as a rally and march in downtown was ending. The rally was held to show solidarity with communities affected by officer-involved shootings this week in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Screen Shot 2016-07-08 at 12.02.49 AMScores of police officers arrived downtown following the shooting, which took place about 9 p.m. near Main and Market streets and a block from the Old Red Courthouse building.

Officers could be seen taking cover as shots rang out.

Video from the scene showed people running from the sound of the gunshots (see below).

In a press conference held at midnight EST, police said there is a potential bomb threat in the city of Dallas.  The police are searching for the sniper shooter(s).  A picture of one suspect is posted here.  The snipers planned the shooting in advance as they shot from elevated areas.
