11-Year-Old Boys Banned From Talent Show Over Trump Skit

One parent complained, and that’s all it took to get these kids kicked out of the talent show.

Twin brothers Marc and David Maggiacomo and their fellow student, Christian Mattaliano had their dance routine down pat, after a hit performance at their school last year, wearing masks of the face of the school’s retiring principal.    They came to be known as the Bobblehead Boys.

For this year’s talent show performance, at the Fiske Elementary School in Wellesley, MA, the boys became the Dancing Trumps, wearing a Trump face mask.

The 11-year-olds performed their Trump dance during the morning performance last Wednesday for students and staff.   It was a wordless, 2-minute act to music, but no words were spoken in the routine.   According to the Boston Globe, a few hours before the evening performance, the school informed the boys they either must ditch the Trump masks or sit out the show.   One anonymous person had complained, and Trump was not allowed.

“The bobblehead is the act,” said Maryellen Maggiacomo, whose twin boys, Marc and David, are two-thirds of the trio. No Trump head, no show.

For the boys, it was confusing and upsetting, said Laurie Mattaliano, whose son Christian completed the trio. “They assume they did something wrong.”

“No words were spoken. It’s just pop culture. The skit took no stance in support or defamation,” Mattaliano said. And both mothers said the nature of the complaint — whether it had come from someone offended on behalf of Trump or by him — was not made clear to them.

David Lussier, the Wellesley school superintendent, declined to say who had complained or why.   “I think it’s so important for us to be seen as nonpartisan in a highly charged election environment,” Lussier said.
