The Department of Homeland Security stated that in 2015, the lowest number of illegal immigrants were deported from the U.S. since the beginning of Obama’s presidency.
According to The Blaze, a Pew Research report states, “A total of 140,000 criminal illegal aliens and 193,000 non-criminal illegal aliens were deported in 2015 and that 333,000 total is the lowest total since 2007.”
Pew had this to say about the decline;
“Several factors have contributed to the overall decline in deportations. The number of apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border, for instance, has been falling for some time: The Border Patrol made 408,870 apprehensions in fiscal 2016, a figure higher than the number of apprehensions the year before but still among the fewest since 1971.”
However, according to Pew Research there was a time, between 2009 and 2014, where there was actually a decline in illegals coming to America. Their study states that during that period, more Mexicans were going back to Mexico from the U.S. than were coming here.
Pew stated “One reason for the decline in apprehensions in recent years is an overall decrease in the number of immigrants (both legal and unauthorized) coming to the U.S., especially from Mexico. (A Pew Research Center analysis shows that between 2009 and 2014 more Mexicans were returning home to Mexico than were arriving in the U.S.) Meanwhile, stricter border enforcement by the U.S. has also played a role in this trend.”
Some feel that Obama’s change in immigration policy makes it appear that there is more deportations than actually occur.
A Border agent, Brandon Judd, stated back in February that, “many illegal aliens are released with just a notice to appear in court and absolutely no reason to do so.”
Judd also stated that the government accidentally hands out citizenship to illegals set to be deported for no reason whatsoever.
