3 kids killed when truck crashes into horse and buggy

The following story is trending on social media:

According to a local Fox News affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at least 3 kids were killed and six other people were critically injured when a driver in a red pickup truck slammed into the horse-drawn buggy they were riding early Sunday morning.

Michigan State Police told Fox 17 the pickup struck the buggy and “demolished it.”   There were a total of nine people riding inside the buggy at the time of the accident.

According to authorities, the three people killed were ages 7, 9 and 12.  Two were girls, and one a boy.  The six survivors were taken to nearby hospitals where they were listed in critical condition. The horse survived the crash.

The driver of the pickup was not injured, and troopers say he was cooperative following the crash, according to Fox 17.

Officials said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident, which remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
