Practice saying this name: ‘President Zuckerberg.’ Say it again: ‘Mr. President, Mark Zuckerberg.’
Imagine turning on Fox News and hearing Sean Hannity say, “Today, President Zuckerberg announced…” It’s a serious possibility.
According to Politico, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has hired Democratic pollster Joel Benenson.
Benenson is the former top adviser to then-President Barack Obama and the chief strategist to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Benenson has been hired as a “consultant.” Reportedly, Benenson Strategy Group will be conducting research for the charity owned by Mark and Chan Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg and his wife plan to donate as much as 99 percent of their Facebook shares. That’s a lot of money, considering its value. At the current price ($169/share), he’ll be giving away an estimated $45 billion to charities, many of them, I am guessing, with a political agenda (e.g., immigration, climate change, guns…).
So, why hire Benenson?
No doubt, Zuckerberg is leaning towards shaping policy, sort of like another really rich billionaire named George Soros. Only, Soros can’t run for president because he is foreign born.
Earlier this year, Zuckerberg also hired David Plouffe. Plouffe was the campaign manager for then-Senator Obama’s 2008 presidential run. And the Zuckerberg’s also hired Amy Dudley, a former communications adviser to Virginia Democratic Senator Tim Kaine.
Zuckerberg claims he has no interest in running for office, but that is what they all say. The Facebook CEO has certainly been traveling like a candidate this year, going from state to state meeting with voters, aka people who use Facebook.
If he were to run for president, the number of headaches this would cause Republicans is impossible to calculate. The amount of data he has access to, and the amount of power he has to limit another candidate’s reach, is more than dangerous. In fact, I’m not sure there’s a word to describe how unfair the situation would be.
We ran a poll this morning asking readers which Democrat scares them most for 2020. I picked Zuckerberg, hands down.
