Thad Cochran has been in the senate for 39 years. He is 70 years old and is a member of the Republican Party serving in Mississippi. Prior to his time in office he spent time in the Navy and as an attorney in Jackson. At the beginning of the 115th Congress Cochran was assigned to the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; the Committee on Appropriations; and the Committee on Rules and Administration.

Orrin Hatch serves the state of Utah. He’s been in the U.S. Senate for 40 years. The 83-year old Republican Senator has served longer than any other on the Senate Judiciary Committee. He is also part of the Committee on Aging. Prior to his time in office, Hatch served as an attorney. He affiliates with the Mormon religion.

The longest serving Senator with 42 years of service is 77-year old Patrick Leahy. Leahy is a Democrat serving in Vermont. He is currently a member of the Joint Committee on the Library, Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition ad Forestry, Committee on Appropriations, Committee on Judiciary, and Committee on Rules and Administration.

Moving over to the U.S. House of Representatives, Don Young has been in office for 44 years in Alaska. The 83-year old politician is a member of the Republican Party. Young served in the United States Army and began his political career as Mayor of Fort Yukon, Alaska. He currently serves on the Committee of Natural Resources, and Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Finally, John Conyers Jr. is the longest serving member of Congress with 52 years of service in the US House of representatives. The 87-year-old politician is part of the Democratic Party and serves in Michigan’s 13th District. Conyers was first elected to the House in 1964. Prior to his time in Congress Conyers was a member of the U.S Army and National Guard. He currently serves as an executive board member of the NAACP as well as the American Civil Liberties union. He also assigned to the Committee on Judiciary.
