When a New Mexico 5-year-old ended up in the hospital drunk on mouthwash, he told police that he was also forced to drink from the toilet when he was thirsty. That sad story led authorities to discover the horrible abuse he and his two siblings, ages 6 and 3, suffered at the hands of  their stepmother, 23-year-old Breya Allen and her boyfriend, Tyriese Howard, 25.

Hospitalized with a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit for adults, doctors called the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department, as well as police, after they discovered dozens of bruises all over the little boy’s body.

The couple is now facing charges of child abuse involving at least two of their three children who live with them at their Albuquerque home, according to the news reports.

The children told police about the “whoopins” they would get and how the adults would choke, punch, and beat their young children with objects including hangars, belts and cords.

It was revealed in court that in order to keep the children quiet about the abuse, the parents had a saying that was drilled into them: “snitches get switched.”

Their bail was set at $50,000 cash each.

A neighbor who lived below them in their apartment complex said she never heard a peep out of the children, only hearing a lot of music coming from the apartment.
