6 Corporations Control 90% of Media

A new info-graphic from Business Insider shows that around 90% of media stems from the same six large corporations: GE, News-Corp, Disney, Viacom, Warner Bros., and CBS. Each conglomerate has around 50 sub-companies under its own umbrella of control.

This mass ownership demonstrates a theory called “the illusion of choice,” according to Business Insider. Some large company sites such as Digg and Reddit do not fall under any of these corporate umbrellas. However, millions of sites read by Americans everyday fall under one of the aforementioned six.
