Like Hollywood actors, professional athletes continue to flex their political muscles. This time it’s six players from the New England Patriots.
Traditionally Super Bowl winners visit the White House for a ceremony where they are honored by the President. This year, six Patriots players have announced they will skip the customary trip. Tight end Martellus Bennett made it clear why saying,” I don’t support the guy that’s in the house.”
The latest player to announce his plans to skip the White House is Alan Branch, a defensive lineman. Branch was more reserved, declining to name Trump by name, “I’ve got four kids at home, so I’m just going to hang out with the family and continue celebrating until the next season starts.” After the Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2014, Branch did attend the ceremony held by President Obama with his team.
Not all of the Patriots family are anti-Trump. Their most visible player, Quarterback Tom Brady is a friend of President Trump. Patriots owner Bob Craft and Coach Bill Belichick are also both long-time friends of President Donald Trump.
