Hurricane Irma picked up strength overnight, and as of early Sunday is back to being a Category 4 storm as it prepares to hit the Florida Keys with 130 mph winds.
6am EDT — The National Hurricane Center said the storm was about 30 miles southeast of Key West, with sustained winds of 130 miles per hour, and headed for the Florida peninsula northwest at 8 mph.
Hurricane Irma is projected to make landfall in the Florida Keys around 8 a.m.
The latest forecast projects Irma will hug Florida’s western coast off Fort Myers through the day Sunday, with the eye wall reaching the Tampa Bay area by the end of the day
On Saturday night an estimated 70,000 Floridians huddled in shelters as Irma closed in on the Keys.
