A standoff in Texas last month ended in the unfortunate death of a hostage, according to a new Texas Department of Public Safety report.
On March 7, the agency’s SWAT officers killed Amelia Huron-Macias, an 84-year-old woman, after mistaking her for her son, Fernando Macias. Fenando had engaged authorities in a standoff at their San Antonio-area home, shooting at officials several times during a daylong standoff.
From KVIA: The report says DPS officers, who’d noted the suspect was wearing a red shirt, returned fire. Officials later learned both mother and son were wearing red shirts.
The standoff started after officials tried to serve Macias with a mental health warrant.
Fernando faces three counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer.
