872 Refugees Being Permitted Entry Despite Trump’s Ban

According to to a new report from Reuters, a document from the Dept. of Homeland Security reveals that the Trump administration has granted waivers to allow 872 refugees into the United States this week. The influx of refugees is being permitted despite President Trump’s executive order that temporarily bans refugees from entering the country.

Reuters reports that a Homeland Security official confirmed the waivers and claimed it’s being allowed because the refugees were considered “in transit” and had already been cleared for resettlement before the ban took effect. The 872 refugees were screened using Obama administration procedures, which typically take two years and include several interviews and a background check.
