A 9-year-old boy, who goes by “Pickle,” wrote an endearing letter to President Trump that was read aloud by White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
During the Wednesday press briefing, Huckabee Sanders said they will read letters and emails sent to the White House from the “forgotten men, women, and children” to serve as a reminder of who Trump is fighting for.
She proceeded to read the letter sent in by Pickle to her captive audience:
“My name is Dylan … but everybody calls me Pickle,” reads the letter, written on lined notebook paper and dated 1 June. “I’m nine years old and you are my favorite president. I like you so much I had a birthday about you. My cake was the shape of your hat.”
He asked a series of questions in the letter:
“How old are you?” Huckabee Sanders said the president is 71.
“How big is the White House?” Huckabee Sanders said it was 168 feet long, 70 feet tall on the south side and 60 feet, 4 inches tall on the north. She added that it requires 300 gallons of white paint to cover the exterior of the residence. It has 132 rooms and is approximately 55,000 square feet.
“How much money do you have?” Huckabee Sanders laughed and replied: “Dylan, I’m not sure but I know it’s a lot.”
The boy also wrote in the letter, “I don’t know why people don’t like you,” to which Huckabee Sanders remarked: “Me neither, Dylan.”
“You seem really nice. Can we be friends?” Huckabee Sanders, speaking straight to the camera, said: “I’m happy to say I directly spoke to the president, Dylan, he would be more than happy to be your friend.”
He concluded his letter writing: “My pitcher [picture] is in here so if you see me you can say hi.” Huckabee Sanders added: “Dylan, I hope you’re watching because the president wanted me to personally tell you hello.” She then invited Dylan to tour the White House if he and his family are ever in Washington DC.
Much to their surprise, Harbin’s mother, SueAnn, received a call from the White House that they were planning to read his letter on air, she told Fox News on Saturday.
“We were at a Giants game and they had called right before we went into the stadium, and they said, ‘Hi, this is so and so from the White House, and we’re calling to let you know that we received Pickle’s letter and that they’re going to read it at the press conference in about 20 minutes,” said his mother.
She replied that they would “definitely” planned to take them up on their offer to tour the White House.
Huckabee Sanders posted a photo of Dylan’s letter to President Trump on her Twitter account Wednesday, along with the message, “Dylan aka Pickle thank you for your letter and hope to meet you soon!”
