According to ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulus, President Trump’s entire presidency hinges on the “Comey memo” that has yet to be seen by anyone other than the “unnamed” Comey associate who allegedly read portions of it to the New York Times over the phone.
George Stephanopolous (GS), who once served under President Clinton, is never shy in his anti-Trump rhetoric.
On Wednesday morning, GS outlined for viewers of Good Morning America how the “Comey memo is the smoking gun” that could take down the Trump presidency after just 4 months of being in the White House.
GS had the audacity to compare the “memo” to the Watergate tapes. Meanwhile, anyone with half a brain knows there is no comparison.
The Nixon White House tapes are audio recordings of conversations between U.S. President Richard Nixon and Nixon administration officials, Nixon family members, and White House staff, produced between 1971 and 1973. Among the tapes released soon afterward was the “smoking gun.” It was a June 23, 1972, Nixon-Haldeman conversation in which the two cooked up a plan to tell FBI Director Patrick Gray to stop investigating the Watergate burglary because of national security implications.
The Comey memo, if it even exists, is one person’s recollection of a conversation. It is not a tape — there is no proof of anything!
What is to stop anyone from writing whatever they want about the conservations shared in a meeting? The answer is, “nothing.” In this case, Comey’s memo is nothing by one’s person’s account. He could have interpreted the conversation between the two men incorrectly. There is no way to know because there are no tapes.
Either way, although one person’s memo is not a smoking gun, facts don’t matter to ABC News. The network is simply doing its part to set public opinion against Trump. GMA reaches millions of viewers each morning. The video below shows the sort of narrative they received from GS:
