In reflecting upon the recent spate of hurricanes affecting the United States, Actress Jennifer Lawrence said she feels like it’s “mother nature’s rage” in response to President Donald Trump’s administration.

It’s no wonder, after what she’s just been through with the filming of her new psychological horror movie Mother! , which is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 15 by Paramount Pictures. Written and directed by Darren Aronofsky, the film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer. Lawrence and Bardem play a husband and wife whose isolated country home is invaded by the arrival of a mysterious married couple.

According to a review in The Guardian, the new film is “an explosion, an assault, a haunted-house horror that whips up conflicting emotions. Some love it, some hate it and some pinwheel back and forth, like lost souls in limbo. On screen, Jennifer Lawrence plays an unnamed heroine whose domestic idyll is overrun by an endless procession of malignant houseguests. They are disturbing her in the bathroom; they are making out in her bed. ‘I’m confused,’ she confides, just as the nightmare begins. And by God, she is not the only one.”

“I think it’s OK to be confused,” said Aronofsky, who calls his movie “a psychological freak-out.”

Aronofsky had this to say about the negative energy of his film: “It’s a mad time to be alive.”

Asked about his comments in an interview with with British television station Channel 4 News’ Jackie Long, Lawrence, 27, acknowledged that there is an end-of-days feeling about the movie.

“For many people, in America who would say, perhaps it’s truer there at the moment than anywhere else,” the reporter said, asking for her thoughts about the changes in the U.S. over the past year.

“It’s scary,” Lawrence said. “You know, it’s this new language that’s forming. I don’t even recognize it. It’s also scary to know—it’s been proven through science—that climate change is due to human activity, and we continue to ignore it, and the only voice that we really have is through voting.”

“And you have voted very recently, as a country,” the reporter said.

“And we voted, and it was really startling,” Lawrence said. “You know you’re watching these hurricanes now, and it’s really hard especially while promoting this movie, not to feel mother nature’s rage and wrath.”

The reporter said it was not just about climate change but also that it is a time of “division” in the U.S.

“It’s really polarizing and upsetting,” Lawrence said, adding that she had seen things on television that made her sick and confused.

Asked if she found Trump confusing, she said, “I think I know exactly what he is.”

Lawrence is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, with an Oscar for Best Actress already under her belt for her role in the 2012 film Silver Linings Playbook. She’s also known for her leading roles in the popular The Hunger Games and X-Men series.
