The local Red Cross announced that an emergency team is providing medical and administrative assistance to more than 300 migrants who penetrated the border fence surrounding Spain’s enclave of Ceuta in North Africa early Friday.
According to Spain’s Civil Guard, a surveillance camera captured footage of more than 500 African migrants approaching the fence, brandishing tools and clubs that they used to break one of the gates.
Around 300 of them managed to reach Spanish soil, noted a Civil Guard spokesman who asked not to be identified. Two agents were injured during the melee and are being treated at a local hospital.
Each year hundreds of sub-Saharan African migrants living illegally in Morocco attempt to enter Ceuta and Melilla, Spain’s other North African enclave, hoping to get to Europe.
Below is a video of a similar incident that occurred in 2014.
