Best known for starring in the 1980s sitcom “Growing Pains” and being the father of controversial singer Robin Thicke, actor Alan Thicke has died at age 69 Tuesday. “Alan’s sudden passing has been confirmed,” publicist Monique Moss wrote in a statement. “At present, we have no further details.” Another publicist, Carleen Donovan, revealed Thicke died from a heart attack in Los Angeles. She also provided no further details.
Gloria Loring, the ex-wife of Thicke, released a statement of condolence on the untimely death: “Thank you for your kindness concerning Alan Thicke’s passing. It is a shock. We were all just together for Thanksgiving. He was talented, funny and deeply devoted to his family. Rest In Peace, dear one.”
The ABC series “Growing Pains” ran from 1985 to 1992. Thicke starred as the widely popular character Dr. Jason Seaver, a psychiatrist and beloved father. The role garnered much praise from fans, claiming Thicke’s portrayal of the American dad was iconic.
