Alec Baldwin: We tried to get Trump to appear on SNL (video)

Alec Baldwin appeared Tuesday on the Ellen show and spoke with host Ellen DeGeneres about his impersonations of President Trump on Saturday Night Live, which DeGeneres claimed are “so entertaining to watch.”

When speaking about the first time SNL asked him to “play” Trump, Baldwin told Ellen, “I don’t want to play Trump. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. Nobody wants to be Trump on a show, or play him on a show.”

Baldwin ultimately accepted the role and asserted in the interview that he never hung around with Trump, nor had he been practicing an impression of him prior to the offer to do so on SNL. He also noted that he has not seen the president since he has been impersonating him on SNL, and believes it would be very uncomfortable if the two met face to face.

“Are you scared of him?” DeGeneres asked, to which Baldwin replied, “No,” amid audience laughter.

“You never thought he would win the election,” Ellen said. “No!” replied Baldwin.

“We asked him to appear on SNL last year, but he declined,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin claims that people walk up to him “all day long” in New York City and thank him for his impression of Trump.
