American Muslims are in outrage over new billboard

The Muslim community is not happy about a giant billboard that has gone up on I-465 in Indianapolis.

The billboard is titled, “The Perfect Man”, and lists all the reported traits of the Muslim prophet Mohammad:

  • Married 6 year old
  • Slave owner & dealer
  • Rapist
  • Beheaded 600 Jews in one day
  • 13 wifes, 11 at one time
  • Tortured & killed unbelievers

The billboard was paid for by “Truthophobes,” an organization whose website is dedicated to “exposing the truth about Islam.”

The Daily Caller points out that the statements exposed on the billboard are all factual, with the exception of the claim that Muhammad married a 6-year-old, as the child was actually 6 years old when she became engaged to Muhammad, and was 9 years old when they were married.

FOX59 in Indianapolis reported that the local Muslims are not happy about it, claiming it disparages the Muslim faith and its prophet.

“I was a little disappointed when I saw that,” said Farial Khatri of the Islamic Society of North America.  “We do support free speech, but we do realize this is also rooted in bigotry.”

“We’ve seen them in New York and several others cities on billboards as well as other transit ads,” he added.

The fact that the billboard was put up right at the beginning of Ramadan also has them enraged.

Rima Shahid, executive director of the Muslim Alliance of Indiana, said, “At any point this would have been highly offensive, but we’re in the holiest month of our faith, when we slow down and reconnect with our communities. To have an attack on all Muslims during this period is very disheartening.”

“It perpetuates hate,” she claimed. “It perpetuates misconceptions about Islam, and it makes our neighbors think we believe things that just aren’t true.”
