American YouTube star detained in Thailand

Nathan Bartling, 23, from Chino Hills, California, is an American traveler in Thailand who is YouTube famous due to his 3.29 million subscribers. He is currently in trouble with Thailand officials for posting a video of a trick involving the flattening of coins on railroad tracks.

Police detained Bartling, who is the creator of the YouTube series “My Mate Nate.” After a news conference Monday with railway officials, Bartling promised he would try to make amends by promoting the state railway.

Bartling took down the video after people said he risked derailing a train. He has officially been charged with railway obstruction, trespassing and damaging railway property.

According to popular science blogs, a coin can not derail a train; it is simply a myth.
