Americans: “Bill us for the wall”

President Trump has been acting like a runaway train in his first week.  He has signed an array of executive orders designed to keep his campaign promises of making America great again.  Of all the 12 orders signed to date, the one that has sparked the most debate is his executive order to enhance border security with the construction of a wall between Mexico and the U.S.

In an interview with ABC NEWS earlier this week, the president confirmed Mexico will pay for the wall.  He did not specify how exactly, but he did say it would come in some sort of future payment.  After hearing Trump’s remarks, the president of Mexico cancelled his meeting with President Trump and declared, “Mexico will not pay for the wall.”  Trump retaliated by stating he is now considering a 20% tax to be placed on all goods coming in from Mexico.

During a Walk & Talk program last month, Dennis Michael Lynch said he believed the payment of the wall was moot, “Americans don’t care who pays for the wall — just put the damn thing up.  It’s a one time hit to the wallet that ultimately saves taxpayers from having to fund the lives of illegal aliens year after year. Plus, what’s the price you put on stopping terrorists, saving your country’s culture, and sparking life into the job market?  Tell me where I can send my check.”

With DML’s statement in mind, we ran a poll earlier this week asking DML readers if they would be willing to pay for the wall.   More than 84% of people responding to the poll said they are willing to pay for the wall,  while 7% said they want Mexico to pay.  Nearly 8% of the respondents claimed “other”, leaving comments that suggest a mutual split of costs between the two countries.  You can take the poll by clicking here.
