After slamming CNN political commentator Jeffrey Lord for defending the president during a segment, anchor Anderson Cooper walked back his comments that Lord would defend Trump even if the president “took a dump on his desk.”
Cooper apologized for the “crude” remark on Twitter, noting that it was “unprofessional.”
“I regret the crude sentence I spoke earlier tonight and followed it up by apologizing on air,” Cooper tweeted. “It was unprofessional. I am genuinely sorry.”

As one of the only Trump supporters on CNN, Lord defended the president’s right to call former FBI Director James Comey a “nut job” in a White House meeting with Russian officials earlier this month.
Interrupting Lord, Coooper remarked, “If he took a dump on his desk, you would defend it. I don’t know what he would do that you would not defend,” before adding, “You’re a loyal guy, I think that speaks well of you.”
Last month, Lord sparked his colleagues’ outrage when he called Trump “the Martin Luther King of healthcare.”
