Ann Coulter owes the New York Police Department “an apology” at the very least after the author and political commentator made a remarkably disturbing comment via Twitter on Tuesday.

The incident in Paris at the Notre Dame Cathedral sparked the tweet. According to reports, using a hammer, a man attacked 3 french policemen from behind while shouting, “This is for Syria.” One of the officers fired two shots, striking the assailant.

Shockingly, Coulter used the incident to insult the NYPD.  She Tweeted: “Paris police very macho, unlike the little girls on NYPD: Only 2 shots fired, one hit the Muslim in the thorax.”

Calling Coulter’s comment “as idiotic as they were insulting,” Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) President Patrick Lynch say’s, “She owes an apology to every NYC police officer who risk their lives daily to protect her.”

Lynch also made reference to “girl” officers, specifically mentioning two female NYPD officers who died in the line of duty. “In particular, she owes an apology to Police Officer Irma Lozada and Moira Smith and countless others who have died protecting this city.”

Lozada was the first female police officer to died on duty. She was killed in 1984 apprehending a thief.

Smith was the first officer to report the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center on 9/11 after seeing the first plane strike. She died in the South Tower collapse as she tried to rescue and evacuate victims.

“There are plenty of conflicted voices out there, but one thing remains true and that is the courage, dedication and bravery of our brothers in blue — both in Paris and New York City,” Roy Richter, the President of the NYPD Captains Endowment Association, said in response to Coulter’s tweet.

Most of Coulter’s followers responded to her tweet with unrest. One asked if she would attack the FDNY next, and another told her to “Keep the NYPD out of this!”

Still, outrageously, others seemed to support her. One follower tweeted: “I know there are aspects of @AnnCoulter that get to ppl. But remember she was one of the 1st to say she was for Trump. I RESPECT her 4 that.”

Despite the backlash, Coulter doubled down, blasting American officers in a second tweet that read: “We’re hectored to be like the French on adultery & global warming. Why can’t we be like the French on hiring large, strong men as cops?”

Often referred to as a troublemaker, provocative and even a “right-wing hate-monger,” Coulter is known for her strong stances on immigration and race. Even her book titles are controversial. They include gems like, “Adios, America: The Left’s Plan to Turn Country into a Third World Hell Hole.”
