‘Anonymous’ FBI officials call Trump a liar

News reports from numerous mainstream media outlets are citing quotes from “unnamed FBI officials” who are going on the record to cry foul over President Trump’s statement that former FBI Director James Comey asked to meet with him to request to keep his job.

During an interview that aired on NBC on Thursday, journalist Lester Holt and President Trump talked about a meeting the president had with Comey.  Trump said, “We had a very nice dinner at the White House very early on. I think he [Comey] asked for the dinner. And he wanted to stay on as the FBI head. And I said, ‘You know, consider, we’ll see what happens.’ But we had a very nice dinner, and at that time, he told me, ‘You are not under investigation,’ which I knew anyway.”

The anonymous FBI officials are now claiming that the dinner meeting was actually requested by the White House, and Comey would have never told the president he was not under investigation.

According to a report from NBC, the anonymous source surmised that Comey would not have talked about the Russian probe to Trump. “[Comey] tried to stay away from it [the Russian-ties investigation]. He would say, ‘look sir, I really can’t get into it, and you don’t want me to.”

More “current and former” FBI officials came out to NBC to dispute the president’s claims, stating, “The president is not correct. The White House called him out of the blue. Comey didn’t want to do it. He didn’t even want the rank and file at the FBI to know about it.” And yet, it sounds like at least two FBI agents (current and former) had intimate knowledge about the details of Comey’s dinner with the commander-in-chief; what was said and what wasn’t said.

“He’s still the commander in chief. He’s your boss. How do you say no?” the official reportedly said.

The two officials also commented on a New York Times report that Trump pressed Comey to promise his loyalty to the president, saying that while they could not confirm the story, Comey’s refusal to pledge loyalty to Trump sounded in line with how they expect Comey would have responded.

The former official was reported to have said, “That is exactly how I would expect the director to answer.”

The former official also went on to say that White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was also lying when she stated that she had talked to “countless members of the FBI who are grateful for the president’s decision” to fire Comey.

“I doubt five people at the FBI even have the [phone] number of the deputy White House press secretary,” said the former official who declined to give credence to his statements by giving reporters his name.
