Anti-Trump celebrities teaming up to give ACLU a boost

The big guns are coming out in droves for a March 31 telethon entitled “Stand for Rights: A Benefit for the ACLU,” which will be broadcast on Facebook Live.

Celebrities from both the silver and small screens alike have signed up to do more than lend a helping hand, and A-listers such as Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks and Tina Fey lead the pack of the Hollywood elite who have made it a point to use their star status against President Donald Trump.

Other actors who are expected to appear at the event are Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”), Jon Hamm (“Madd Men”), Padma Lakshmi (“Top Chef”), Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”), Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”), Zosia Mamet (“Girls”), Ike Barinholtz (“The Mindy Project”), Tituss Burgess, Josh Charles and Jane Krakowski (“The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), with more names to follow soon.

They are keeping the location anonymous, only saying that it will be somewhere in New York.

“Our work in the courts is essential right now to hold off the worst of the abuses,” said ACLU executive director Anthony D. Romero said to Reuters. “But it is also the collective will and tireless actions of ‘we the people’ that serve as a bulwark against unconstitutional and wrong-headed policies and executive orders. By supporting our work through this telethon, we can fight even harder to defend the rights guaranteed by our Constitution.”

The ACLU sued President Trump over the first travel ban in January and has received “tens of millions of dollars in donations” since then, which is more than their typical full year’s take. And the organization also stated that it has received a membership surge since the election in November.
