Antifa activists show up at Heather Heyer’s funeral with bats

A funeral was held Wednesday morning for Heather Heyer, the young woman who was killed in the vehicle attack in Charlottesville on Saturday.

Taylor Lorenz, a reporter from The Hill who was covering the funeral, posted a notice on Twitter stating that the “[a]nti-fascist activists have just shown up outside the theater with baseball bats and purple shields.”

The activists reportedly stated they came armed because “the police won’t protect the people.”

Lorenz later tweeted, “Group now swarmed by reporters. Honestly dumb to roll up w/ bats to a memorial service & expect that that’s not what the media will focus on.”

The line to enter Heyer’s funeral, held at a theater in Charlottesville, reportedly stretched out over two blocks.

President Trump acknowledged Heyer in a Twitter post Wednesday morning, stating, “Memorial service today for beautiful and incredible Heather Heyer, a truly special young woman. She will be long remembered by all!”

The driver of the vehicle, James Alex Fields Jr., who was videotaped attending the rally, has a history of violence and was charged with second-degree murder. He has been denied bail.
