A man standing along a highway, armed with a machete and dressed in a clown suit, terrorized drivers Wednesday, who called 911 to report him.
The man, identified as Larry Tovey, 61, was sighted along California’s Highway 101. Monterey County Sheriff’s officers responded, handcuffed Tovey and questioned him, then let him go, as he had not “directly” threatened anyone, and had committed no crime.
The man was waving what appeared to be a bloody machete, but the “blood” turned out to be cotten dyed red. The two deputies had their guns drawn when they first confronted Tovey, but then decided he was “harmless.”
The sheriff’s department posted on their Facebook page that although it may be “fun” to dress up as a clown, just don’t do it standing beside the road holding a machete.
