Army Colonel Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison For Child Pornography

An Army colonel who once headed the U.S. Army’s strategic war gaming division at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday for receiving and distributing child pornography over the internet.

Col. Robert Rice, 59, spent 37 years in the military and was arrested in 2013 after software installed on his computer caught what he was doing.

According to ABC 27 News, in April 2013, Cumberland County authorities reported they found 10,000 pornographic images depicting children engaged in sexual acts on Rice’s computer.

Rice was found guilty following a five-day trial this past May, and after his sentencing, he said he was “so sorry and ashamed” for what he did.

“When this began I didn’t see the human beings,” Rice said. “I came to realize that this is not a victimless crime. That each time an image is passed it renews the … emotional damage.”

In addition to time in prison, Rice was also fined $5,100 and will have to spend 10 years under supervision following his release.
