After the violent rioting at the Trump rally in Albuquerque recently, the police department began their search for at least 30 suspects who directly targeted their officers. So far, three have been arrested, including a 14-year-old boy who told his parents he “didn’t do anything.”
The 14-year-old, Marcus Griego, is accused of throwing a grapefruit-sized rock at an officer. A police commander who was standing next to the officer that was hit actually witnessed the boy throw the rock, and a picture was taken of him after the rock was thrown. Police confronted him at the time, and he just “laughed it off and pretended it wasn’t a big deal,” said APD spokesperson Celina Espinoza.
Griego is charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery on a peace officer, and the District Attorney’s Office intends to prosecute him as an adult. His attorney says that’s too much, and the APD actually has agreed, saying they want to be able to lead him in the right direction. APD is open to lesser punishment options.
Griego is being held at the juvenile detention center, on a $10,000 cash bond or surety. He has no previous criminal record.
