President Donald Trump initiated a standing ovation for Australian businessman Anthony Pratt after he pledged to invest $2 billion in U.S. manufacturing jobs.
Pratt made the announcement at an event held on decommissioned World War II aircraft carrier the USS Intrepid in New York’s Hudson River where he told an audience, which included Trump, “Tonight I’d like to pledge another $2 billion over the next 10 years doubling our rate of investment to create an additional 5000 high paying manufacturing jobs mainly in the midwest.”
Pratt further stated that his decision was inspired by President Trump, who had made “America the greatest place in the world to manufacture,” the Sidney Morning Herald reported.
A billionaire, Pratt is the executive chairman of Visy Industries and Pratt Industries United States, which is known as the world’s largest privately-owned packaging and paper company.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his wife Lucy also attended the event.
