Bannon taking over the Heritage Foundation?

People were shocked when former senator Jim DeMint was ousted from his role as president of the Heritage Foundation on Friday, and Heritage Action CEO Michael Needham isn’t talking about who will be his replacement.

When Chris Wallace asked Needham if Steve Bannon might be named on “Fox News Sunday,” he was denied a direct answer. “I can tell you,” Needham replied, “there’s a lot of speculation in the room and in the media that never misses a chance to divide and attack conservatives.”

It was reported in the Washington Examiner that even Heritage employees are clueless, considering that many of them had to hear about DeMint’s departure through a Politico article that ran Friday. One board member, Todd Herrick, even resigned in protest, but Heritage is still not talking to the press.

Employees have been asked to keep all information within the workplace, according to an internal email sent out by Wes Dyck, vice president of personnel. “Further public speculation is not helpful to the cause we all share: advancing principled, conservative public politics for all Americans,” he wrote.

Staffers were hysterical when they heard the rumor about Bannon on Fox News, according to reports. One senior staffer texted, “I’m literally dying right now. No one has heard of this. It’s just coming out of left field.”

DeMint began leading the conservative Heritage Foundation in 2013, after resigning as a South Carolina senator mid-term.

Needham had nothing but good things to say about DeMint. “He’s had a courageous career in Washington and the conservative movement [is] far better because of that,” he praised, adding, “The Heritage Foundation that is committed to formulating and promoting conservative policies, that is not going to change.”
