BATTLE of OPINIONS: Social media responds to Trump’s presser (see tweets & video)

President Donald J. Trump was forced to once again address the timing and content of his many denouncements of the violence that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the weekend.  Speaking to the press at Trump Tower Tuesday, he answered numerous questions as the media pressed the president about his stance.

The president maintains that both sides are guilty of displaying the hate and violence in Virginia. His insistence that both sides were at fault caused a social media melt-down. The president received both support and shock over his assessment, and the reactions were explosive.

Detractors claimed the president can’t think for himself, and was only repeating what others were saying.

One user wrote: “Recognize: What Trump is saying isn’t new. He’s literally parroting what’s being said on right-wing radio, alt-right Twitter and Fox News.”

Liberal comedian Jimmy Kimmel referenced the statement by calling the President of the United States “crazy.” He wrote:  “I haven’t seen anything that crazy since Tyson bit Holyfield .”

Chris Cillizza of CNN claimed: “What Trump just did is prove he has no idea the damage he did to himself and the country on Saturday.”

Trump’s supporters found his unwillingness to cave to pressure refreshing, however. While the mainstream media wants the president to stick to the narrative that white supremacists wreaked havoc in Virginia, the president refuses to put all the blame on one group.

One user tweeted: “Trump just nailed it. The leftists at Charlottesville were violent, club yielding thugs who were there to fight. They aren’t without sin.”
