Despite the fact that Ann Coulter never actually spoke at the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, the school still dished out a half-million dollars to pay for security as liberals flooded the grounds to protest the scheduled speaker.

Coulter canceled her appearance due to public safety concerns, but the school’s leftist mob still showed up. Berkeley had to pay officers overtime to keep peace on the campus, which cost them a half-million dollars, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The paper reports the Oakland Police Department, San Leandro Police Department, California Highway Patrol and six other UC campuses sent officers to Berkeley last Thursday.

Berkeleyside said that a spokesman for the Alameda County police said the cost of all that security was worth it to the school because “nothing happened.”

For years, Berkeley has prided itself on being the home of the Free Speech Movement in the 1960 but has now become an unsafe area for conservatives to voice their opinions.

The school had asked Coulter to speak at a time where there were fewer students on campus, but she refused.
