Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 7.21.46 AMBy the time New York City woke up Wednesday morning, police had completely locked down Manhattan’s 10-acre Washington Square Park in anticipation of a political rally.  Before anyone stood at the podium, when the stage was empty and waiting for a presidential candidate to arrive, based on the crowd size alone one would think they were attending a Trump rally.  And by 6:30 p.m., rally-goers and journalists at the park were reporting a turnout in the tens of thousands.

But then a white-haired older man took to the stage.  Bernie Sanders, the self-proclaimed socialist running for president, drew a massive crowd last night in New York City.

Although Sanders is 74-year-old, the senator from Vermont attracts voters who are 1/3 his age.  According to the Sanders campaign, 27,000 supporters attended the event last night. “Thank you to the more than 27,000 New Yorkers who came out tonight to join our political revolution. Unbelievable,” Sanders wrote on Twitter.
