Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has won the endorsement of a South American president who called Sanders “our revolutionary friend” and said it is only an ancient electoral system that is keeping him from the presidency.
Venezuela’s communist president, Nicolas Maduro, really wants to see Sanders in the White House. During a speech in March, he praised him as “an emerging candidate with a renovating and revolutionary message.”
Meanwhile, communist policies in Venezuela have plunged the country into a financial crisis, where supermarket shelves are empty and citizens have to wait in lines for everything from pasta to toilet paper.
For a country that is one of the great oil producers on the planet, its people are now unable to pay for basic commodities like milk, flour and rice, which are mostly imported, triggering severe shortages on all goods.
