Sen. Bernie Sanders grilled Betsy DeVos during her confirmation hearing in D.C. this week. DeVos is Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of Education.
DeVos is a very wealthy woman, and part of a family that has amassed a fortune well into the billions of dollars. Her family has donated significantly to the GOP over the years, and so Senator Sanders insulted her by asking if she had been nominated by President-elect Trump simply because she is such a big donor to the GOP. DeVos resisted the allegation by stating she’s been fighting for students and parents for nearly 30-years.
The former presidential candidate didn’t stop there. Sanders grilled DeVos about her position on providing free college in America. When DeVos tried to answer, Sanders cut her off and doubled down on his question by slamming billionaires for getting tax breaks. DeVos kept her cool during it all and ended with a great answer, “Senator, nothing in life is for free. Somebody ultimately pays for it.” WATCH:
