BET Awards get political, subtly demean Melania Trump

At the BET Awards ceremony Saturday evening, an indirect slam was launched against First Lady Melania Trump, when Michelle Obama was referred to as “Our Forever First Lady.”

Before presenting the Humanitarian Award to Chance the Rapper, CEO of BET Debra Lee played a video of Michelle Obama giving a personal congratulations to the rapper.

In her introduction, Lee reportedly introduced Obama as “our forever First Lady, Michelle Obama.”

At age 24, Chance the Rapper is the youngest person to ever receive the award, MRC NewsBusters noted. In his acceptance speech, he stopped short of a harsh political slam, saying, “We got to work on ourselves before we can work on the world.”

He did voice some complaints, saying he wants to tell “everyone in this government that y’all need to let everybody out of jail for selling weed before you start making it legal for people to sell it and make capital off of it. I was going to tell the Chicago public school system not to take out a loan from Chase bank when they know our schools are planning on failing in the district. I was going to tell those judges that we just need a conviction when you know these BLEEP was wrong for doing this.”
