President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court appointee, Neil Gorsuch, will be sworn in on Monday morning at the White House.
“He will be a great justice,” Trump said in a Twitter post on Saturday congratulating Gorsuch. “Very proud of him!”
Gorsuch, 49, is expected to serve for several decades. Trump could possibly make further appointments to the high court in the future since three of the eight justices are 78 years of age or older.
With Gorsuch’s confirmation comes a conservative majority of 5 to 4. He will formally begin as a justice on April 17, and his appointment will help in tackling cases that would have been polarized with the eight-person court resulting from Justice Antonin Scalia’s death.
The judicial oath for Gorsuch will occur at 11 a.m. EDT in a Rose Garden ceremony. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, Gorsuch’s former boss for whom he was a clerk as a young lawyer, will be honored with administering the oath.
