BLADE RUNNER Oscar Pistorius’ murder sentence more than doubles

Former Olympian athlete Oscar Pistorius’ lenient 6-year prison sentence for murder was increased to more than 13 years Friday.

South African’s Supreme Court ruled in favor of state prosecutors who appealed the original sentence handed down for the death of Reeva Steenkamp, a model who was shot by Pistorius, 31, at his home in Pretoria during the early hours of Valentine’s Day 2013.

Pistorius shot four times through the door of a bathroom in the home, claiming he thought his girlfriend was a burglar.

An original five-year sentence for culpable homicide was later upgraded to murder, and prosecutors brought the case back into court again this year.

The 13 years plus five months the convicted killer received on Friday came from a total 15-year sentence for murder, with time already spent in prison for the crime subtracted.

Pistorius was the first double-leg amputee to compete in the Olympics as well as the Paralympic Games. He was not in court to hear the decision.
