Border Patrol agent seriously injured in horrific attack

An off-duty Border Patrol agent is recovering in a hospital after suffering serious injuries from an attack Friday night in New Mexico.

A passing motorist reportedly found the agent on the side of the road about 11pm Friday night, with serious injuries to his head, chest and hands.

Information on his condition has been kept quiet, but Robin Zielinski, a photographer for the Las Cruces Sun-News, reported that credible sources had told her the agent’s fingers were cut off in the attack, which happened in Doña Ana County.

The Border Patrol released the following notice on their website Saturday, announcing the attack:

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is assisting in the investigation of a report of an assault against an off-duty Border Patrol agent assigned to the Deming, New Mexico, Border Patrol Station. The agent was discovered on the side of the road by a motorist at 11 p.m. MDT. The agent suffered multiple, serious injuries to his head, chest and hands. Emergency Medical Services transported the agent to a nearby hospital where he is being treated for his wounds. The agent is in stable condition. CBP is working closely with the FBI, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, and the El Paso Police Department on the ongoing investigation. CBP has informed its workforce of this report and has reminded its law enforcement personnel to be alert and aware of their surroundings and potential threats related to their service.

Blue Lives Matter reported that the agent was “kidnapped, tortured and mutilated.”

Breitbart Texas editior Brandon Darby first reported the incident, and said the area just south of the border near that location is controlled by the Juarez Cartel and their enforcers, La Linea. Darby said they are known to kidnap and torture their victims. He noted that the very fact that the FBI is also investigating the matter is significant.

Darby reportedly obtained a document from the El Paso Border Patrol Sector that provides additional details not reported in their press release.

The agent’s identity has not yet been released.
