Border Patrol announces huge drop in illegal border crossings

According to a report just published Friday by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the number of apprehensions at the Southwest border during the month of June is the lowest for the same period in six years.

Granted, there was a nine percent increase in apprehension of illegal aliens from May to June, but when comparing June 2016 to June 2017, apprehensions have dropped a shocking 53 percent.

Border Patrol caught 19,962 illegal aliens crossing the border in May 2017, compared to 21,659 in June 2017, attributed to a normal increase over the summer months.

However, one year ago, in June 2016, total apprehensions were 45,722.

Border Patrol also released annual apprehensions for the past few years:

Fiscal year 2016 – 408,870

Fiscal year 2015 – 331,333

Fiscal year 2014 – 479,371
