Brazile backtracks on DNC claims (video)

Former Democratic National Committee Chair Donna Brazile seemed to be changing her tune on Tuesday with a newly modified description of “what happened” inside the Democratic Party in 2016.

“Hillary Clinton did something for the Party that everyone should understand,” Brazile said on CBS News. “The Party was broke, and she gave the Party a lifeline of resources in order for us to compete, and that’s what she did for the general election.”

While explaining her take of what happened when she took over as interim party chair last summer, after Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned, Brazile sounded as though Clinton may have done the Party a favor by infusing cash into the DNC.

Brazile has written in a new tell-all book that she discovered evidence Hillary Clinton’s campaign took over the DNC months before the presidential wannabe had the Party’s official nomination.

“By September 7, the day I called Bernie, I had found my proof and it broke my heart,” Brazile wrote, about a Sep. 7, 2016, call to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who gave Clinton a far more serious challenge for the nomination than many had expected.

“If the fight had been fair, one campaign would not have control of the party before the voters had decided which one they wanted to lead. This was not a criminal act, but as I saw it, it compromised the party’s integrity,” Brazile wrote in “Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns that Put Donald Trump in the White House.”

Brazile’s softer tone was called out by CBS host Gayle King when she claimed that despite Clinton’s control over the DNC, the primary election was a “fair fight.”

“Your book seems to suggest you’re bitter, angry…” King told Brazile.

“I’m a member of the Democratic establishment in terms of I’m on the rules committee,” Brazile shot back, despite what she wrote in her book. “It is a fair fight. We don’t set primary dates. They’re set by the states.”
