Earlier today it was confirmed that a Russian-American lobbyist has confirmed his attendance at Donald Trump Jr.’s June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower, but now it appears an additional unknown participant was involved. Thus, upping the total to 7 people in the meeting.
The meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Kremlin-linked attorney Natalia Veselnitska reportedly lasted just 20 minutes, but has bolstered claims that associates of President Donald Trump’s campaign team colluded with Russia.
Currently known to have attended the meeting at issue are Veselnitska, Trump Jr., his brother-in-law Jared Kushner, then-campaign manager Paul Manafort and music publicist Rob Goldstone, who arranged the session with the promise of delivering opposition research on Hillary Clinton.
The sixth person, Rinat Akhmetshin, who was identified as a Russian-American lobbyist, told the Associated Press that he attended the meeting and denies reports that he is connected to Russian intelligence agencies.
According to Akhmetshin, Trump Jr. asked Veselnitskaya for evidence of illicit money being funneled to the Democratic National Committee, but Veselnitskaya claimed that she did not have that information.
Referring to Trump Jr., Manafort and Kushner, Akhmetshin reportedly said that “they couldn’t wait for the meeting to end.”
Alan Futerfas, Trump Jr.’s attorney, confirmed on Friday to Fox News that a seventh person attended the meeting.
Futerfas did not reveal the name of the seventh person, but said that he was a U.S. citizen. Some reports have described him as a “former Russian counter-intelligence officer.”
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said the growing list of attendees “adds another deeply disturbing fact about this secret meeting.”
Schiff said, “Whether the additional party or parties present during the meeting with these top Trump campaign personnel at the time Donald Trump had seized the nomination were connected directly with Russia intelligence or not, it is clear the Kremlin got the message that Donald Trump welcomed the help of the Russian government in providing dirt on Hillary Clinton.”
