R. Lee Ermey, a Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for his role as Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, has died.

The news was announced via his official Twitter account by his longtime manager, Bill Rogin.

The tweet read: Statement from R. Lee Ermey’s longtime manager, Bill Rogin:

It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Semper Fi, Gunny. Godspeed.

Fox News reported in 2016 that Ermey, a Marine vet, believes he was blackballed in Hollywood. After appearing in dozens of movies and TV shows, he wasn’t hired again after expressing his conservative views and because he served as an NRA board member, Ermey said at the time.
