It was announced on Friday evening that former FBI Director James Comey has agreed to testify publicly before the senate intelligence committee. According to Senator Richard Burr and Senator Mark Warner, Comey will appear sometime after Memorial Day. However, a solid date has not been determined.
Senator Warner said Comey’s appearance would help answer some of the questions that have arisen since he was fired by the president. “The committee looks forward to receiving testimony from the former director on his role in the development of the intelligence community assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 US elections, and I am hopeful that he will clarify for the American people recent events that have been broadly reported in the media,” Burr said in a statement.
Comey is expected to be pressed for answers about his written memo that describes how President Trump had asked him to drop his investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. President Trump has yet to react or tweet concerning this new development.
