At least three people have been critically wounded in an explosion in the western Turkish city of Izmir. The explosion occurred near a courthouse, according to private news agency Dogan on Thursday.
Ambulances and police vehicles immediately arrived on the scene, amid countrywide tensions following the nightclub attack in Istanbul during a New Year’s celebrations. Some Turkish media reports claim the explosion happened near an exclusive entrance used by judges and prosecutors.
It’s been reported by Dogan and other media outlets that the source of the explosion was a car bomb. No suspects or organizations have been confirmed as the culprits. However, some are reporting the bomb attack may have been caused by the Islamic State terrorist group or by Kurdish militants.
