BREAKING: FOX NEWS calls Alabama senate race election

The special election in Alabama to fill the senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, who left to head up the Justice Department as the U.S. Attorney for the Trump administration, has been a hard-fought battle, but Tuesday night, the election results are in.

The race was called by Fox News, stating that the Democrat, Doug Jones beat the Republican, Judge Roy Moore.

President Trump originally backed GOP candidate Luther Strange, but when former Judge Roy Moore won the primary, the president threw his support behind Moore, warning that his Democratic opponent, Doug Jones, supports abortion, and is “bad on crime, border security, veterans, guns and military.”

Alabama, considered a red state where Trump won by 28 points last year, was generally expected to go to the Republican candidate. When Sessions last ran for re-election, he won with over 97 percent of the vote.

However, the race for Sessions’ old seat turned into a major roller-coaster when Moore was suddenly hit with allegations of sexual misconduct from multiple women, of incidents which allegedly occurred about 40 years ago, when they were teens, and Moore was in his 30’s.

Moore, 70, has repeatedly denied all the accusations, never wavering in his insistence that the stories are false. As a results of the allegations, however, he has been labeled as a “child molester” and a “pedophile.”

The allegations against Moore have also divided Republicans, as many withdrew their support and even asked him to withdraw from the race.

President Trump has accepted Moore’s word that the allegations are false, and encouraged Alabama voters to support him.

Meanwhile, former president Barack Obama threw his support behind Jones, and recorded a robocall message to pull voters over to Jones’ side.
