The special election for the House seat in Georgia has come to a conclusion, with the GOP holding on to the vacancy left by Rep. Tom Price who is now part of the Trump administration.
GOP candidate Karen Handel beat Democrat Jon Ossoff by a margin of approximately 4 points. This is the second big win of the evening for Republicans. They won the special election in South Carolina on Tuesday.
For Republicans, this was a major win because it shows the anti-Trump movement is not as strong as the media is describing. Had the Democrats won the open seat, the liberals would have plenty of momentum heading into the 2018 midterms. But with a GOP win, not only will the anti-Trump movement suffer a setback, but Republicans may warm up to the president and help his agenda move forward.
The election in Georgia was extremely expensive, with more than $60,000,000 spent.
