BREAKING — Iraq’s state TV says the nations’ prime minister, Haider al-Abadi arrived in Mosul on Sunday to declare victory over the Islamic State after in the nearly year long battle to force the terrorist group from the city.

PM Haider al-Abadi reportedly said he “congratulates the fighters and the people on the big victory” in Mosul.

PM al-Abadi arrived in Mosul on a military airplane.  He was dressed all in black and was surrounded by staff and reporters when greeted by senior security forces commanders.

Backed by U.S.-led coalition, Iraq launched the operation to retake Mosul in October 2016.   ISIS captured Mosul in the summer of 2014 and has caused havoc ever since.
