John Goodman said in an interview published Sunday that ABC’s new sitcom “The Conners” will deal with the exit of former “Roseanne” star Roseanne Barr by killing off her character.

“She had to sign a paper saying that she relinquished all her rights to the show so that we could go on,” Goodman told The Times of London. “I sent her an email and thanked her for that. I did not hear anything back, but she was going through hell at the time. And she’s still going through hell.”

The article goes on to state the following:

Goodman played Dan Conners alongside Barr on “Roseanne” for years, including the relaunch, which began in 2017.

ABC promptly canceled “Roseanne” and fired Barr in May after she tweeted that Valerie Jarrett, former senior adviser to President Obama, was the offspring of the Muslim brotherhood and apes.

Barr apologized for her tweet and insisted she wasn’t a racist, but later walked back her apology, saying she “thought the bitch was white” and accusing ABC of firing her over her support of President Trump.

People further reports:

In a new interview with U.K. newspaper The Times, Goodman opened up about the hit show’s cancellation, admitting he was “surprised” by the network’s reaction to Barr’s tweet. (“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” president of ABC Entertainment Channing Dungey said in a statement at the time.)

“I’ll put it this way, I was surprised at the response,” he said. After a pause, according to The Times, he said, “And that’s probably all I should say about it.”

After another pause, he added: “I know, I know, for a fact that she’s not a racist.”

  1. Now, that’s a good comedy! Nothing like death to get laughs. I won’t watch the Roseanne show without Roseanne.

Also, just to clarify, she said Valerie Jarrett looked like the Muslim Brotherhood and The Planet of the Apes had a baby. Remember the characters in their ape and monkey costumes? If she had meant ape, she would have said ape.
